Dr.Jose F. ToledoDVM
Dr. Toledo, Chief of Staff and owner of Southland Animal Hospital & Boarding was born and raised in Mexico. He attended University of Veracruz, where he earned his degree as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics in Mexico, and received his D.V.M. in 1986. Dr. Toledo practiced small and large animal medicine in the central area of Mexico for 3 years. He then came to the United States where he received full accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to practice Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Before buying Southland Animal Hospital, Dr. Toledo worked in private clinics as well as in a corporate hospital. He is married to Annette, and has two beautiful children, together with 5 dogs, named Batman, Felix, Trixie, Champ and May, all rescued. He enjoys running, mountain biking, racquetball and spending precious time with his kids and wife.
Dr. Tejedor attended National University of La Plata in La Plata, Argentina where he earned his Doctorates in Veterinary Medicine in 1978. He has been practicing veterinary medicine in the United States since 1982 and has loved every minute of it. Dr. Tejedor has very vast knowledge in both internal medicine and surgery, however he is also specialized in pet dentistry.
Gloria OquendoPractice Manager
Born in Brooklyn, New York Gloria Oquendo moved to Miami in 1992. Since the young age of 6, shes always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. She hopes to pursue a career in the veterinary field and is grateful for the experience and knowledge she consistently gains at Southland Animal Hospital- where she has been working since December 2016. She is a member of the Humane Society and the ASPCA. As for her own furry babies, she has 2 cats, a cat named Walter White, and a Siamese mix named Marilyn Monroe. On her free time, she enjoys reading, going to the gym and spending time with her 8 year old daughter, Angelina.
Alicia MoorefieldLead Receptionist
A Miami born native, Alicia joined the Southland family a little over 2 years ago. She has a wide knowledge in client relations and enjoys caring for our clients pets as if they were her own, even slipping them a tasty veterinary certified cookie every now and then! When not at the hospital, she enjoys spending her free time fishing in the keys or with her two four legged friends, Ryden (a 3 year old American Bully mix), Mona (an 20 month old American Bully mix) and her family.
Lyanne Aviles MorenoLead Veterinary Technician
Born and raised in Cayey, Puerto Rico, Lyanne found that she had a passion for helping others at an early age in her life. At only 17, she made the decision to join the Marines and devoted 7 years of her early adulthood protecting our country, including an active tour in Afghanistan. Lyanne graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s in Medical Sonography and in 2016 with a Bachelors in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Medical Sciences in Puerto Rico. She enjoys spending her time off with her two pooches Summer and Jaxson.
Viviana Garcia GuzmanVeterinary Technician
Viviana is a Robert Morgan graduate certified as a veterinary assistant who arrived at Southland Animal Hospital through her practice hours. Her work ethics and attitude to learn and strive impressed us at such a young age that she was hired to work while she was in high school in the veterinary program. She also is involved with a dog training company specializing in protection training with GSD and Belgian Malinois. In her spare time she enjoys her own couple of Belgian Malinois, turtle, fish and birds.
Lizzete OcampoVeterinary Technician
Mexican born native, Lizzete started her journey with the study of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics at Autonomous Metropolitan University in Mexico. In 2007 she obtained a Master of Science degree in reproductive biology focused on breast cancer. She arrived in the United States in 2018 where she broadened her knowledge on large undomesticated animals. Throughout her career she has worked with various types of animals and soon developed a passion in small animal health. Her journey has now led her to us here at Southland Animal Hospital where she is an amazing part of our team of nurses!
Alexis RieumontVeterinary Technician Assistant
Alexis is a native of Havana, Cuba, and emigrated to United States in 2015, started working with us practically right after arriving to Miami, performing maintenance duties according to our facilities needs. He has recently taken on more responsibilities, such as a Veterinary assistant. His plans are to eventually bloom into a Veterinary Technician. Alexis has a parakeet named Moti. He enjoys his time off dancing Salsa, cycling, and painting.
